Meditation

Mentioned below is one approach to chakra meditation that I currently teach and practice, and is based on what I learned from my time studying with Dr. Frederick Lenz (Rama):

For now I will mention an overview of this type of meditation and then go into more detail later on this page, as this practice can run very deep. Involved are three of the seven main chakras, which are the navel center (one finger width or two below the navel and associated with the color red), the heart center (middle of the chest and associated with the color lake blue) and the ajna chakra (slightly above the center eyebrow line and associated with the white light). The ajna chakra is also commonly referred to as the third eye. These are all located in our subtle physical body, which is composed of “strands of luminous energy” as mentioned by Rama. Each of these three main chakras are actually portals to the wonderful higher causal dimensions (the formless), which are the vast planes of the intelligent light (as Rama mentioned) and full of power and knowledge.

The shushumna is the main astral channel that connects the six main chakras starting with the root chakra at the base of the spine, the sacral chakra (second chakra) near the genital area, the navel center, the heart center, the throat chakra (fifth chakra) at the base of the throat and finally the ajna chakra. The ida and pingala are astral tubes that spiral around the central channel. The crown chakra (seventh chakra) is not connected to the shushumna nor the ida and pingala, and is located slightly above the head and associated with the gold light. The crown chakra is also commonly referred to as the thousand petal lotus.

Kundalini energy is of major importance and it naturally flows through the ida and pingala and is part of our life force and is in essence, flowing awareness. Once we notice that the kundalini energy is flowing in the central channel (the shushumna), our practice moves to a whole other level and starts really accelerating. Positive intent and inner balance is of major importance when accessing the powerful flow of kundalini energy.

If you are sitting in a chair with your legs reaching the floor, please keep your legs uncrossed. Otherwise, if your legs are folded on the chair or you are sitting on the floor, the easy sitting style, half lotus or full lotus is fine. The idea is to have a pretty tight focus on each chakra you are progressively focusing on, and to avoid grasping on to errant thoughts or images running through your mind. If you notice that your mind is wondering, simply bring your focus back to the chakra that you are currently engaging with. There is no need to get frustrated or upset with yourself but just continue to gently bring your focus back to the chakra.

Morning Meditation

One very fine choice for the morning meditation is to meditate to the Enlightenment music, which has the link shown below and is free. There are fifteen tracks, so for an example of an hour long meditation we can meditate on the navel chakra for the first five tracks, then move to the heart chakra for the next five tracks and then finally move to the ajna chakra for the last five tracks. It is suggested to let go of the tight focus on the ajna chakra for the last few minutes of the meditation period but still stay attentive and centered. This will allow a level of consolidation of what subtle energy and knowledge you have accessed during the meditation to occur.

Evening Meditation

One excellent choice for the evening meditation is to meditate to the Canyons Of Light music, which has the link shown below and is free. This is very specially designed music that can help us tap into the amazing knowledge and power of particular power spots in the American Southwest.
